A vascular valve prosthesis is formed by suturing, preferably in a running fashion, a vein valve segment that has been substantially trimmed to reduce a wall thickness, and thus a radial dimension thereof, to a self-expanding stent. The thus formed bio-prosthesis (18) is percutaneoulsy placed to treat chronic venous insufficiency when it is due to incompetent venous leaflets.< /SDOAB>
