The invention relates to a device and a method for inspecting fuel elements (3) of a nuclear reactor underwater. A remote controlled miniature endoscope (5) forming part of an inspection device (1) is introduced into the fuel element (3) and the non-easily accessible parts (25, 35, 37) of the fuel element located therein are inspected without having to disassemble the fuel element (3).
