<p>A fuel injector (10) for direct injection into a combustion chamber (31) comprising a poppet valve (11) biased toward a closed position to seal off the outlet of the injector (10) from the combustion chamber (31). Fuel is fed from the injector (10) along a longitudinal bore (18) of the stem (20) of the valve (11) through a plurality of transverse bores (26), opening into a stepwisely expanded (28) radial space (27) between the outer surface of the stem (20) and the seating (29) between the stem (20) and the valve body (22). The longitudinal bore (18) has stepwise expansions (24, 25) in the direction toward the valve face.</p> |
