The aim of the invention is to provide a compensator for compensating thermal expansions of ducts for carrying hot flows of media, especially ducts that are lined with fire-proof material. Said compensator should be easy to maintenance and yet simple in its design. It should not longer be necessary to check its operability, especially in terms of the expansion gap (19) and its elastic temperature-resistant jointing material (20) from within the duct. To this end, the expansion gap (19) for the flame-proof lining is arranged in a plane of the cross section of the duct that is adjacent to the plane of the cross section of the corrugated pipe compensator (18) of the steel sheet cover (15). The steel sheet cover (15) is separated at the circumference in the area of the expansion gap (19) for the flame-proof lining so that after release of the releasable connection (23, 24) of the steel sheet cover elements (21), the elastic temperature-resistant jointing material (20) is easily accessible from outside the duct.
