In the present invention there are disclosed novel benzofuran-2-ones of the general formula I, in which Ri1 through Ri6 and a have specific meanings, further use of those benzofuran-2-ones as stabilizing agents of organic materials against oxidation, thermal or light-induced degradation, and method for stabilizing the organic material against oxidation, thermal or light-induced degradation.
