PURPOSE: An auto image gain control method and an apparatus are provided to adjust the image brightness by using a digital image process. CONSTITUTION: An auto image gain control method includes following steps. At the first step, a look-up table(25) is implemented in the digital television. The look-up table is used in various usage such as gamma compensation. At the second step, a particular value for varying the brightness of the input image is stored in the look-up table. The brightness of the output image relative to the input image of the look-up table is controlled automatically. The look-up table is changed during the vertical synchronous signal interval of the input image.
