PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for assigning a terminal station ID in a multimedia satellite communication system are provided to accept a number of a terminal station subscriber at a time by a central station assigning different IDs to a terminal station. CONSTITUTION: In step ST1, data having CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) code for initial access, channel frequency signal and PID(Packet IDentifier) for information service is constructed into TS(Transport Stream) packet and transmitted. In step ST2, a control processor of central station receives access request message data from a set-top box. In step ST3, it is determined whether a user requesting an access is authorized or not by comparing a subscriber's IP and password with information for subscribers stored in a database. If the user is authorized(step ST4), it is determined whether an available TID is present or not by searching the database, and TID for control, TID for traffic, a channel frequency and CDMA code are assigned to the set-top box(step ST5). In step ST6, a TS packet outputted from a PS(Private Section) packet generation part is modulated through a modulation device and transmitted to the set-top box via RF device. In step ST7, a TS packet data including the assigned terminal station ID is generated and transmitted to the terminal station requesting the access.
