PURPOSE: A pro-tensioner device of a steering column is provided to prevent the chest or the head of a driver from hitting on a steering wheel by rapidly shrinking the steering column for lowering the steering wheel in a short time. CONSTITUTION: A pro-tensioner device in a steering column comprises a column upper shaft(10) rotating a steering wheel; an upper fixing bracket(20) preventing the movement of the column upper shaft during a rotation; a column lower shaft(30) transmitting rotational force from the column upper shaft to a steering shaft; a lower fixing bracket(40) preventing the movement of the column lower shaft; and a pro-tensioner(50) dispersing impact and lowering the column upper shaft, between the column upper shaft and the column lower shaft. In case of a collision, the pro-tensioner measures impact degree to explode an explosion pipe in case of more than regular pressure. Then, a cylinder(53) descends with the guide of a piston rod(52) while spouting pressure gas to an air hole. Thus, the column upper shaft descends to move the steering wheel backward and the head or the chest of a driver is protected from impact.
