PURPOSE: A performance estimating apparatus of an optical projection system is provided to measure a performance such as an MTF, a projection resolution, and a peripheral light amount ratio of an optical projection system. CONSTITUTION: A pickup section(100) converts an optical information which is projected on a screen from an optical system into an electric signal. The pickup section(100) includes a pickup element having horizontal and vertical CCDs(120,130) which are arranged on a screen and a CCD driver(110) for driving the pickup element. A personal computer(300) calculates a modulation transfer function, a projection resolution, a peripheral light amount ratio, and a distortion ratio. A signal processing circuit(200) processes an electric signal from the pickup section(100) to obtain data which the personal computer(300) can process. The signal processing circuit(200) includes the first and second amplifiers(210,220) for amplifying outputs of the horizontal and vertical CCDs(120,130), an A/D converter(240) for converting outputs of the first and second amplifiers(210,220).
