PURPOSE: A self-tensioning device for snow chains is provided to easily mount snow chains and to maintain self-tensioning force continually. CONSTITUTION: A self-tensioning device for snow chains comprises: an outer element (3) to be suitable to be placed on the outer side of a wheel (1) and to be closable in a ring; an inner element to be suitable to be placed on the inner side of the wheel and to be closable in a ring; a slip protection elements (10) to joint the inner and outer elements and to create the traction on the tread; a terminal portion (7) to pass through a non-return device (5) which makes the terminal portion slide only in the chain tensioning direction and not in the opposite slackening direction; a storage block (2) to be mounted on the outer element and to contain an elastic element (21) which is able to hook, tension and retain the terminal portion.
