PURPOSE: A scroll compressor is provided to simplify a structure to uniformly maintain a pressure of an intermediate pressure chamber for providing a back pressure to a rotation scroll and prevent excessive friction between fixing and rotation scrolls. CONSTITUTION: A scroll compressor, includes a rotation scroll(53) and a fixing scroll(51) engaged together for forming a plurality of compression chamber, a main frame(55) formed below the rotation scroll, an intermediate pressure chamber(61) for providing a predetermined size of back pressure to the rotation scroll to remove an axial gap formed between the scrolls, a communication channel(65) formed between the scrolls for communicating with a suction chamber(63) and the intermediate pressure chamber, and an opening and closing element(67) mounted on the communication channel for opening the communication channel to maintain the back pressure of the intermediate pressure chamber by introducing a pressure of the intermediate pressure chamber to the suction chamber when a pressure difference between the chambers is larger than a predetermined value.
