PURPOSE: A method for generating and recording management information of a recorded digital data stream and a searching method using the same are provided to quickly and accurately perform a search operation of a recorded digital data stream by dividing a received digital data stream into stream objects and by generating and recording management information of the stream objects. CONSTITUTION: When a recording mode is set by a controller(250) of a streamer(S10), a data stream being received is recorded in a recording medium(S11) and the number of sectors of the data stream being recorded and its recording time are counted(S12). Thereafter, when the counted recording time reaches a time corresponding to the multiple of a predetermined unit time(S13), it is detected whether the number of the sectors of the recorded data stream is more than a predetermined number of sectors(i.e., more than 26 sectors)(S14). Upon detection, if the number of the sectors is more than 26 sectors, 27 sectors is separately recorded as a stream object unit(SOBU)(S15). It is detected whether there is a difference between the boundary position of the SOBU and a position of a data packet having the same arrival time as the unit time length corresponding to the boundary position(S16). If there is no difference, a difference flag field allocated on general information of a mapping list is set as '0' to be recorded(S17). If there is a difference, a difference flag field allocated on general information of a mapping list is set as '1' to be recorded (S18). A series of management information for the SOBU is generated and recorded(S20), and management information on the difference between the positions is additionally recorded in a field representing the difference(S21). The above recording operations are repeatedly performed until a recording completion request is received(S22).
