<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device that high-quality gradation can be displayed by preventing a current from being leaked at a switching element as for the projection type display device using transmission type liquid crystal light valves. SOLUTION: This projection type display device is provided with three liquid crystal light valves 21R, 21G and 21B having polarizing plates 20Rp, 20Gp and 20Bp and emitting the light beams of the respective color components of red, green and blue by respectively modulating the intensity thereof and a dichroic prism 14 synthesizing the respective light beams emitted from the light valves. Then, 1/2 wavelength plates 20Ri and 20Gi are arranged between the light valves 21R and 21G for red and green and the prism 14 in order to orthogonally cross the polarizing direction of the emitted light beam of the blue component to those of the emitted light beams of two other components.</p> |
