PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as a catalyst capable of manifesting a high activity for initiating a metathetic reaction of an olefin. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I, II or III X1 and X2 are each a 3-20C hydrocarbon or the like having allyl which may have <=3 OH groups or the like and the main chain substitutable with a 1-20C alkyl or the like; L1 and L2 are each a monodentate neutral electron donative ligand; L-L is a bidentate neutral electron donative ligand; L3 is a solvent molecule or the like coordinating with the central ruthenium; L-L-L is a neutral tridentate electron donative ligand; [A] is a counteranion weakly coordinating with the ruthenium}, e.g. a compound represented by the formula [(2,7-dimethyloctadiene- diyl)Ru(PCy3)2(THF)][BF4]2 (PCy3 is tricyclohexylphosphine; THF is tetrahydrofuran). The compound represented by formulae I to III is obtained by bringing, e.g. a compound represented by the formula [(X1) (X2)RuY2]2 (Y is Cl) into contact with THF, or the like, adding AgBF4, or the like, thereto, depositing a chloride salt and adding the ligands L1 and L2 thereto. |
