PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a thread from being wound around a boss part or a V belt by forming a groove between a hand rotation part and the boss part in the handwheel of a sewing machine which is provided with the hand rotation part to be exposed outward from a cover part and with the boss part positioned inside the cover part. SOLUTION: The boss part 56 where a V groove 55 is formed and the hand rotation part 57 are arranged in the handwheel 58 and the main shaft 54 of the handwheel 58 is supported in the frame 52 of the sewing machine with a bearing 53. In the machine, the V belt 61 is disposed over a part between the V groove 55 of the handwheel and a motor pulley and a belt cover 62 is disposed to cover the outer side of the boss part 56. In this case, the groove 1 is formed between the boss part 56 and the hand rotation part in the handwheel 58 and the front surface of the groove 1 is worked to be provided with little friction resistance. Thus, the thread from a spool is put into the groove 1 when the end of the thread is hung from a gap S to the boss part 56, the boss part 56 is rotated as against the thread while sliding and, then, the thread is prevented from being wound around the boss part 56 or the like.
