PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing scum in coal tar capable of removing the refuses in the coal tar more surely and economically than the conventional method. SOLUTION: A method for removing scum contained in coal tar by centrifugal separation. The centrifugal separation is divided into two steps. The first separation is carried out at a centrifugal force of 30-50 G, for 30 sec or less in the time of the centrifugal force application; and the second separation at a centrifugal force of 1500 G or more, for 30 sec, or more for the centrifugal force application.
