PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water purification apparatus capable of excellently carrying out water purification by arranging filter materials as to efficiently bring wastewater into contact with the filter materials. SOLUTION: This water treatment apparatus is provided with a plurality of filter material rows comprising a plurality of filter materials 2 and arranged in parallel across the flow route direction of object water to be treated and the filter materials constituting the respective filter material rows are so arranged as to form zigzag arrangement in the flow route direction between respectively neighboring filter material rows. The apparatus is further provided with an aeration pipe for generating spirally swirling current of the water to be treated in the flow route direction.
