A lubricant containing a fluorinated dicarboxylic acid of the formula: A1-COO-R1-Rf-R2-OCO-A2 in which Rf is a divalent perfluoropolyether group; R1 and R2 are the same or different and represent a hydrocarbon group; and A1 and A2 are the same or different and represent an organic group having a carboxyl group, which allows two solid materials, for example, a magnetic recording medium and a magnetic head, to slide with low wearing at a low friction under various conditions.
