PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain heptafluorocyclopentane in high yield and selectivity by reducing dichlorooctafluorocyclopentane with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst comprising a metal of the group VIII of periodic table. SOLUTION: (A) 1,1-Dichlorooctaflurocyclopentane is reduced with (B) hydrogen in the presence of (C) a hydrogenation catalyst comprising a metal of the group VII of periodic table to provide 1,1,2,2,3,3,4-heptafluorocyclopentane. The component C preferably comprises (i) 100 pts.wt. metal of the group VIII of periodic table, preferably palladium and (ii), as necessary, an additive metal component such as silver, copper, gold, tellurium, zinc, chromium, molybdenum, thallium, tin, bismuth or lead. The component C may be a catalyst obtained by supporting 0.05-10 pts.wt. metal component on 100 pts.wt. support. |
