PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a subject image which gives the impression that the brightness of the subject image is the same as that of a subject viewed by a user's eye even to a user inexperienced in a camera. SOLUTION: By performing the photometry of the subject, a photometric value LV is obtained (step 31). When the LV value is under a 1st threshold A, an EV value is calculated by using a 1st operation expression (steps 33 and 34). When the LV value is equal to or above the 1st threshold A and under the 2nd threshold B, the EV value is calculated by using a 2nd operation expression (steps 33 and 35). The EV value smaller than that calculated by using the 1st operation expression is calculated as the EV value calculated by using the 2nd operation expression. Then, the subject image brighter than the subject image obtained when the subject is image-picked up by using a diaphragm value and shutter speed decided according to the EV value calculated by using the 1st operation expression is obtained. The subject image having the brightness near to the impression of the actual brightness of the subject is obtained.
