PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable printing using recording paper having a predetermined size in the same way as tape-like recording paper. SOLUTION: A tape cassette 100 housing a tape 101 or a short strip like paper cassette 200 housing short strip-like paper with a predetermined size to which printing control data applied is mounted on a cassette mounting part 15. A thermal head 16, a platen roller 17 for feeding the tape 101 or the short strip-like paper 201 to the thermal head 16 and a cassette sensor 24b for detecting the kind of the paper cassette are provided to the cassette mounting part 15. The kind of the paper cassette mounted on the cassette mounting part 15 is detected by the cassette sensor 24b and, in the case of the short strip-like paper cassette 200, printing control data is detected by a recording paper sensor 25 to apply printing to the short strip-like paper 201. By this constitution, printing can be applied to recording paper having a predetermined size in the same way as the printing to long (tape-like) recording paper.
