PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device facilitating the design of a projection lens by designing a total reflection(TIR) prism by adjusting a prism angle and adjusting the incident angles of respective color light beams. SOLUTION: This color synthesis device includes reflection type display elements 12, 22 and 32 respectively reflecting the incident R, G and B color light beams, the TIR prisms 11, 21 and 31 transmitting the R, G and B color light beams, advancing them to the respective elements 12, 22 and 32 and totally reflecting the R, G and B color light beams reflected from the elements 12, 22 and 32, a color cube 13 synthesizing the R, G and B color light beams totally reflected from the prisms 11, 21 and 31 and the projection lens 14 transmitting the synthesized light beam and forming the image thereof on a screen. Then, the prisms 11, 21 and 31 are designed so that the prism angle(a) becomes 37 deg.-38 deg.. Besides, the incident angle of the R, G and B color light beams are adjusted to be 39 deg.-40 deg..
