PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly set a fuel cell at a suitable temperature at the startup of the fuel cell and to enhance the efficiency of a fuel cell system. SOLUTION: This fuel cell system 20 is provided with a heating device 40 arranged so as to wrap up a fuel cell 30. The heating device 40 is filled with a heating element that causes an oxidating reaction to generate heat when oxygen is supplied, and causes a reducing reaction to return to an original state when hydrogen is supplied. At the startup of the fuel cell 30, the fuel cell 30 is heated by introducing air into the heating device 40 by a blower 60 to make the heating element in the heating device 40 generate heat. When the fuel cell 30 comes into a steady operation, the heating element is reduced by introducing an off-fuel gas exhausted from the fuel cell 30 into the heating device 40. As a result, the fuel cell 30 is rapidly set to a suitable temperature. Since the fuel cell 30 can repeatedly be heated by using the air or the off-fuel gas, the efficiency of the whole system can be improved. |
