PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-cost high performance phase transition type optical recording medium which does not require an initializing process before use. SOLUTION: This optical recording medium has a phase transition recording layer in which the phase reversibly changes between a polycrystalline state and an amorphous state by irradiation of light. When the phase transition recording layer is in a polycrystalline state, the distribution of particle numbers to the grain size of grains which constitute the polycrystal is made to show maxima at two different particle sizes so that the crystallization can be rapidly and surely realized. |
