PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device permitting to use different forms of recording media. SOLUTION: This recording and reproducing device is provided with a mounting member 5 which is freely turnable toward a clamping position CL and another mounting member 6 arranged to be freely turnable to the mounting part 5, and the mounting member 5 is provided with a turntable 2 for clamping a recording medium and an optical pickup 3, and the mounting member 6 is provided with another optical pickup 4, and this device is further provided with cam members 11, 12 for turning the mounting part 5 and a cam 32 for turning the mounting member 6. When a naked recording medium DS is inserted, the mounting members 5, 6 are horizontally turned toward the clamping position CL, and the optical pickup 4 performs recording or reproducing. When a cartridge type recording medium CDS is inserted, the mounting member 5 is horizontally turned toward the clamping position CL, and the optical pickup performs recording or reproducing, and the mounting member 6 is turned in the direction of separating from the cartridge type recording medium CDS to save the optical pickup 4.
