PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition which can easily be produced, has good storage stability, is not sensitive to water in the presence of a conventional dental filler at room temperature, and is little in polymerization contraction, by compounding a specific bicyclic ring system and a specific initiator. SOLUTION: This low contractive material for dentistry comprises (A) at least one bicyclic ring system which contains 6-17 carbon atoms, if necessary, one heterogeneous atom, and at least one endocyclic double bond and is not substituted by a methacrylate group, and (B) at least one polymerization initiator for a ring-opening metathesis polymerization. The bicyclic ring system of the component A is preferably a crosslinked ring system, and includes a bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene derivative of formula I [A is CH2 or O; R1, R2 are each H, a (substituted) 1-6C alkyl or the like], formula II [B is CH2 or does not exist; (n) is 1-4; R3 is a 1-10C alkylene or the like which is substituted n times] or formula III (R4, R4' are each a 1-20C alkylene, a chemical bond, O or the like).
