PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To freely set a filter pressure and compressing pressure in a wide range from low to high pressure, reliably carry out press-filtering of various types of object matter to be filtered corresponding to the properties of the object matter, to be a closed type, and to prevent liquid leakage at the time of press-filtering process, to simplify the structure, and to lower the manufactur ing cost. SOLUTION: This cylinder type filter press is provided with a filtration chamber 2 formed in a bottom-closed casing 1 having filtration faces 4 in the inner circumferential face. Cake pressing plates 13 capable of reciprocating by operation of hydraulic cylinders for pressing a cake are so installed in the filtration chamber 2 as to freely slide. A cover 21 opened or closed by the operation of a hydraulic cylinder for pressing cover is put on the open end of the casing 1. A raw liquid introducing means 30 is installed to introduce a raw liquid into the filtration chamber 2 and a filtrate discharge means 32 is installed to discharge the filtrate passed through the filtration faces 4 out of the filtration chamber 2.
