PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin additive which can inhibit the decrease in mol.wt. and decrease in Izod impact strength of a thermoplastic resin under thermal melting by treating the surfaces of inorganic particles with tannic acid, then with a saccharide, and with a coupling agent. SOLUTION: Silica, alumina, silicates, aluminates and glass are usable as the inorganic particles, and so are a powder of carbon or carbon fibers. Sugar and polysaccharides are usable as the saccharide. The coupling agent is preferably a silane coupling agent. In treating the inorganic particles with tannic acid, the particles are treated preferably with a solution containing tannic acid in an amount of 0.5-6.0 wt.% of the particles. Preferably, the saccharide and the coupling agent are used each in an amount of 0.4-4.2 wt.% of the inorganic particles treated with tannic acid.
