PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial prosthesis for a femur with the connection made along a spherical surface of about 22.22 mm, achieving the destruction resistance equivalent to at least 46 kN. SOLUTION: This artificial prosthesis has a femoral head 11 which can be engaged with a femoral rod 12 to be fixed to the femur of a patient and a cap 13 to be fixed to the pelvis of the patient. The head 11 is supported rotatably and slidably in a dent formed inside the cap 13. At least the outside of the head 11 is made of a ceramic material and has a spherical outer surface whose diameter is equivalent to about 22 mm. At least the inside of the cap 13 is made of a ceramic material and has a spherical inner surface whose diameter is equivalent to about 22 mm.
