PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the service life of a battery of an electronic camera by relaxing a peak value of power consumption and to prevent a print fault in advance in the electronic camera that has a print mechanism printing out a picture just after its photographing. SOLUTION: The electronic camera is provided with an electronic image pickup section 10 that uses a CCD image pickup element 12 to apply photoelectric conversion to an object image into electric image information, an image data recording section 40 that records the image data by the image pickup section 10 to a recording medium 42, an image recording display section 30 that displays the image data by the image pickup section 10 on a TFT liquid crystal display panel 34, a print section 80 that prints out the picture obtained from the image data by the image pickup section 10 on photosensitive print paper, and an image pickup control section 50 that controls the image pickup section 10. The image pickup control section 50 controls supply of power to the image pickup section 10 during the time printing is proceeding in the print section 80.
