PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a portable telephone set that reduces or eliminates a silence state in the case of handover. SOLUTION: On the occurrence of handover, a link channel setup request (S303) is applied to a base station being a changeover destination, and a new communication channel assigned as the request is discriminated as to whether or not the channel uses a time slot in timing when connection processing to the base station is conducted while continuing a speech with a base station before changed over in parallel (S306). Only when the communication channel capable of parallel conduction is assigned, the handover is consecutive.
