PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin preparation which has a remarkably improved skin- whitening effect and high safety and is useful for external use, by adding the extract of Chutro (scientific name; Berberis nepalensis). SOLUTION: This skin preparation for external use contains the extract of Chutro (scientific name; Berberis nepalensis). The Chutro is a plant which belongs to the genus Berberis in the family Berberidaceae and has been used as a traditional galenical drug in Nepal. The extract of the Chutro is obtained by immersing or thermally refluxing the leaves, stems including subterranean stems, branches, barks, fruits, whole plant, and the like of the Chutro together with a proper extraction solvent, filtering and then concentrating the filtrate. The extract is added in an amount of preferably 0.001-20 wt.% more preferably 0.01-10 wt.%, pspecially preferably 0.1-7%, as a concentrated product or a dry product on the basis of the total amount of the preparation for external use for skin. The preparation for external use for skin is preferably a beautifully skin-whitening agent for the external use. |
