PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allocate searching depths to each echo sounder, and optimize searching factors (a dip and a hanging depth) of each echo sounder so as to cover a searching region in the depth direction, in an underwater target searching system for searching an underwater target by using two echo sounders hung down from a mother ship. SOLUTION: A searching factor setter 10 sets combinations of dips and hanging depths respectively relative to each echo sounder. An effective detection distance calculator 20 calculates effective detection distances corresponding to the combinations of the dips and the hanging depths. A detection probability calculator 30 calculates detection probabilities of the beam center based on the effective detection distances corresponding to the combinations of the dips and the hanging depths. A depth condition determinator 40 extracts the whole combinations in which the detection probability exceeds a threshold over the whole depth, and extracts therefrom one combination of the dip and the hanging depth, in which the minimum value of the detection probability relative to the depth becomes maximum.
