PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starter having high operational reliability and high production efficiency. SOLUTION: This engine starter comprises a rotor 3 connected to a rotatable key cylinder within a determined rotation range including a key pulling and putting position of a key plate, an ignition switch controlling start and stop of an engine by rotation of the key cylinder, and an interlock mechanism prohibiting a stopper projection 6 projecting from the rotor 3 from moving and from returning to the key pulling and putting position when a shift lever has a position except parking. The interlock system has a lever 8 moving the stopper projection 6 between a blockable position and an unblock position and a driving means moving the lever 8 to a side of a block position when the key cylinder leaves from the key pulling and putting position and moving to a side of the unblock position by the shift lever moving to the parking position.
