REMOVAL OF ANTHRAQUINONE FROM BOTH TALL OIL AND ITS FRACTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove anthraquinone and to dissolve the adverse effect such as plugging of the equipment due to the solidification of anthraquinone, or the like by bringing tall oil or its fraction both including anthraquinone into contact with activated carbon to adsorb the anthraquinone. SOLUTION: Anthraquinone included in tall oil or its fraction (especially the overhead fraction of tall oil) is adsorbed and removed by bringing the tall oil or its fraction into contact with activated carbon. Activated carbon preferably is housed in the bottom, and tall oil or its fraction preferably is made to pass through the bed of activated carbon. Effluent from the bed is collected and concentrated to be able to provide a usable concentrated anthraquinone source. The temperature of tall oil or its fraction in being subjected to adsorbing treatment preferably is 50-100 deg.C. Used activated carbon bed can be regenerated by being treated with a regenerative solution including sodium hydroxide.
