PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fix and unfix a movable carriage by turning operation of a knock pin, by forming the pin hole of the knock pin fixing the movable carriage out of a semicircular sectional groove. SOLUTION: In a work vise provided with a screw rod 7 screw advancing a movable pawl in a movable carriage 4 moved on a base stand 1, a knock pin 29 fixing the movable carriage 4 is a pin with a tip end side or intermediate part formed in a semicircular section, the movable carriage 4 is provided with a semicircular sectional groove 28 orthogonal to a moving direction of the movable carriage 4 in a surface 25 facing the base stand 1, and it is provided with a plurality of semicircular section grooves 21... arranged with a prescribed space. In a condition that the semicircular sectional part 31 of the knock pin is turned to the semicircular sectional groove 28 in a moving base side, the movable carriage 4 can be freely moved, the movable carriage 4 and the base stand 1 can be fixed when the semicircular sectional part 31 is turned to the semicircular sectional groove 21 in a base stand side.
