PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a psyllium-containing drink capable of suppressing the manifestation of viscosity and gelatinization caused by hydration of the psyllium, hardly manifesting the viscosity and having a low gel strength even after a heat treatment, and keeping the physiological effect originally possessed by the psyllium. SOLUTION: This psyllium-containing drink is characterized by including at least one kind of etherified or esterified modified starches having >=20,000 molecular weight, providing 2 wt.% aqueous solution having <=9.0 cp viscosity (measured by a B-type viscometer with rotor No. 1 at 60 rpm at 25 deg.C), and psyllium. The method for producing the psyllium-containing drink comprises (a) a step for preparing an aqueous solution containing at least one kind of modified starches and the psyllium, (b) a step for filling a container with the obtained aqueous solution and hermetically sealing the container, and (c) a heat-sterilization step carried out at the time before, during or after the filling and sealing step (b). |
