PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moisture-absorbing and releasing core-sheath conjugate polyester fiber having excellent moisture-absorbing and releasing performance, feeling such as springiness and body and yarn quality, suitable for clothes, industrial materials, etc., and producible in high fiber-producing performance. SOLUTION: The objective core-sheath conjugate fiber contains a core component composed of a mixture of a modified polyalkylene oxide and a polytrimethylene terephthalate or a polybutylene terephthalate and a sheath component composed of a polyethylene terephthalate. The modified polyalkylene oxide is a resin produced by reacting a polyalkylene oxide and a polyol with a symmetric aliphatic isocyanate compound. The ratio of the modified polyalkylene oxide in the core component is 10-60 wt.% and the Young's modulus of the fiber is >=50 g/d.
