PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing cobalt soap having an increased softening point by raising the softening point of the cobalt soap in a simple manner. SOLUTION: A fatty acid bearing carbon-carbon double bonds in the molecule is modified by bringing the fatty acid into contact with oxygen or hydrogen peroxide and the modified fatty acid is used as a starting substance to produce the objective cobalt soap.
