PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oxide member having a thermoelectric figure of merit of the same level as FeS being a representative electrothermal oxide, having stability in a high-temperature atmosphere, showing high electrothermal performances even at an approximate room temperature by constituting the member from an Li-substituted type nickel oxide. SOLUTION: This oxide member is represented by the formula AxNi1-xO (0.01<=x<=0.4; A is Li, Na or their combination) such as LixNi1-xO or NayLizNi1-y-zO ((x) is about 0.024; (y) is about 0.1; (z) is about 0.01). The thermoelectric figure of merit of the member is 0.2×10-4 K-1 in the vicinity of 200 deg.C and >=0.7×10-4 K-1 at 800-1,000 deg.C. The output factor of the member is 0.54×10-4 Wm-1K-2 in the vicinity of 200 deg.C and 2.5×10-4 Wm-1K-2 in the vicinity of 1,000 deg.C. The oxide is a compound of crystal structure of rock salt. The method for manufacturing the member is a simpler process than a method for manufacturing a nonoxide-based member. The above compound abundantly exists as NiO in a natural system and has a merit of high safety.
