PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read the display characters and patterns of a food menu and to utilize them for the self management system of meals by providing a read means for reading the characters and patterns, etc., and a communication control means for accessing other devices such as an optional data base with a portable telephone set as a communication medium, etc. SOLUTION: By operating a control means 2, turning the read means 1 to an operation state, reading the characters and patterns, etc., displayed in a food menu with a retrieval function and processing the signals in a processing means 3, the address of the other device such as the optional data base displayed by the characters and patterns, etc., is recognized and kept in a storage means 4. By operating the communication control means 6 together with that, the portable telephone set is turned to the communication medium and the recognized address of the other device such as the optional data base is automatically accessed. Then, data kept in the data base are retrieved and the retrieval data are returned through the portable telephone set to this reader, stored in the storage means 4 and displayed in a display means 5. |
