PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow servo data to be read out always in an optimized condition by dynamically setting a timing for reading out the servo data during a seeking operation in accordance with temporal variation during the seeking operation. SOLUTION: Each time when a start bit is detected along with detection of a reference signal in servo data, a difference d between a timer value at that time and a standard servo data time interval (ideal period) is calculated, and a timer is reset and restarted (at steps S2 to S4). Until the next start bit is detected, the thus obtained d is used for setting various timings for reading out servo data (at steps S7 to S10).
