PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display the same image as an image on paper at an intended position without the need for a complicated operation. SOLUTION: A read section 2 is provided in front of a display device 1. When an original is set on the display device 1 and reading start is instructed, the read section 2 starts moving along a rail 3 to read an image of the original in the unit of one longitudinal line. In this case, a light is emitted onto the read line position so as to identify an area lighted for each prescribed period (no original placing area) from an area not lighted for each prescribed period so that the read section 2 reads the latter area by recognizing it to be the original placing area. A read image is fed to a computer 5, which displays the read image at the same position as the read position.
