PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely apply the brakes to restriction of a telephone answering service with respect to an exchange provided with a call pickup function. SOLUTION: The exchange is provided with a switch 12 that forms a channel between extensions (subscriber lines) accommodating terminals 11-1-11-N according to an instruction given externally and with a call processing means 13 that applies call processing to an incoming call arisen in any of the terminals 11-1-11-N, transfers the call to a proxy destination in place of a destination in response to a telephone answering service via a telephone answering service terminal other than the destination terminal, and gives an instruction adaptive a procedure of this call processing or the switch 12. The call processing means 13 sets a pickup inhibit index denoting it when a proxy reply is accepted to the call and inactivates the telephone answering service conducted by other terminals than the terminal that is a substantial transfer destination.
