PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reflect the intention of a photographer and to decide the image quality of the respective areas of images at the time of recording the images photographed by a digital camera. SOLUTION: A line-of-sight detection part 10 detects the watching point of the photographer and the line-of-sight information is stored in a storage part 11. An important area specifying part 12 specifies an important area in an image based on the line-of-sight information and an importance calculation part 13 calculates the importance of the respective areas of the image. In an image processing part 5, the resolutions of the respective areas of the image are decided by using the importance for A/D converted digital output signals. In an image compression part 6, the compressibility of the respective areas of the image is decided by using the importance for image data outputted from the image processing part 5.
