A plant with desirable flower characteristics (the receptor) has grafted onto its root-bearing lower stem an upper stem from a plant (the donor) with better leaf qualities. The upper stem must have a side shoot with leaf or capable of producing leaf. Double grafts are possible using parts of two or even three plants.
