PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a light leakage and noise and also to appropriately cool a heat generating member inside concerning a projection type display device. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a housing 12, a light valve 20, a projection lens 36 enlarging and projecting picture light formed by the light valve, at least one of the heat generating members 14, 38 and 40 arranged at the inside of the housing, at least one first fan 42 to take in cooling air to the inside of the housing so that the cooling air may blow off the light valve, at least one of second fans 43, 44 and 45 arranged at the inside of the housing so that the cooling air may directly hit at least one heat generating member and a third fan 46 to exhaust the cooling air from the housing to the outside.
