PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor and an image processing method capable of accelerating a processing without increasing processing hardware especially after intermediate coding. SOLUTION: This image processor is provided with an image read means 1 for reading the images of an original and converting them to digital data, a character recognition means 12 for recognizing a character part in the read images, an image recording means 9 for printing digital image data, a coding means for converting the result of the character recognition means 12 to codes and an image development means for developing the codes received from an external device to digital images using font information prepared in advance and can perform printing in the image recording means 9 by received data from the outside. In this case, the data coded by character recognition are converted to the images in the image development means, synthesized with the images other than the coded images and printed in the image printing means 9.
