PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the value of a writing current of a writing object head so that the value is made optimum for the environmental temperature and the combination of the head and the recording surface of a disk medium. SOLUTION: Function information, which represents a current temperature dependence approximation equation of an optimum writing current for a head, is obtained for every head 12-0 to 12-3 (H0 to H3). Then, the information is made into parameters and the parameters are beforehand registered in a FROM 26 as a parameter table 260. During a writing instructed by a write command from a host, a detection output value of a temperature sensor 28 is read into a CPU 25 through an A/D converter 29 and the environmental temperature of the writing indicated by the value is obtained. Then, an optimum writing current value, which matches with the environmental temperature at the writing and a writing object head, is determined from the environmental temperature and the parameter of the equation of an optimum writing current corresponding to the writing object head in the table 260 and the current value is set in a head channel 19.
