PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device in which a collision between a lens and the disk is surely avoided even through the focal distance of an objective lens and a working distance are made short. SOLUTION: In the optical disk device, a focus position error of an objective lens which converges light beams on an optical disk 101, is detected to generate a focus error signal FE and a focus position of the lens is controlled by a focus servo system which includes a focus servo equalizer 109 that compensates for the gain/phase of the signal RF. If it is discriminated that a servo control is not possible by a focus servo discriminating circuit 133 which determines propriety of focus servo control, the focus servo is turned off, a lens collision preventing signal is added to the output signals of the equalizer 109 so that the lens is forcibly moved in the direction away from the disk 101.
